Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen, known to the world as simply NHOP, was a Danish virtuoso Bassist who mostly played in bop-oriented jazz settings. Renowned around the world for his masterful technique and dedication to furthering the instrument, his sudden death in 2005 was a shock to the whole Jazz community. The Bass In The Background contains a great selection of Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen's work, covering thirty years from 1962-1992. This is a terrific CD that demonstrates exactly why NHOP was one of the best bassists in the world, whilst also commemorating his life. Besides well established Danish artists such as Svend Asmussen, Bent Jaedig and Alex Riel, collaborations with Kenny Brew, Ben Webster, Dexter Gordon, Ed Thigpen and Stuff Smith can be heard, to name but a few!
