It is used in the film for a scene which represents the loss of Dien Bien Phu: a concert is going to happen and while the music starts, some sporadic images of the battle are shown. The concerto goes through different phases to express what is seen through the images, alternating melancholy, desperation, desolation and the feeling of lost power.
