A playfully lyrical piece, Sonatina for the Wiregrass makes a pleasing invitation for the student to explore the style of the three-movement sonata: Jubilee puts right-hand melodic phrasing and dynamics on display; Aria sings with a sequential theme and broken-chord accompaniment, and Dance sums up the work with a fast Minuet. A lovely opportunity to show musicianship and understanding of the classical sonata form in a modern setting.
