One of the best-known English madrigals, this selection was composed by John Farmer (c1570-c1605). The music so well echoes the story that it has become a classic of its time. This edition by Dr. William Belan follows therecommendations in his new book, (Handbook for English Madrigals JG0720), which includes providing the music in contemporary notation and also in individual parts as originally sung.
