Indeed, in several respects, the spirituals stand by themselves?- by reason of their sheer nobility of their melodies, picturesque imagery, the religious exaltation frequently evident in both text and music but it is the energy, but it is the vitality of the rhythm that draws admirers and worshippers.

This second collection contains 17 Spirituals, all chosen to include both the most admired songs in this field and a representation of the widely divergent styles and their rhythms. Every song has been arranged here for Voice and Piano, with optional Guitar chords and Harmonica included in the notation.
