The present version of the Finale of Anton Bruckner's 9th Symphony establishes the diverse cyclical relationships to the preceding first and third movements, as Bruckner had already done in his 8th Symphony. In terms of the orchestra, this completion adheres strictly to Bruckners own concept of orchestral color; The composer had finished the orchestration of the entire exposition and in the following sections, the development and the recapitulation, he also completed the string parts, whereas the remaining wind and brass parts have often been suggested by entries made in pencil. Josephson employed Bruckner's own scores, drafts and sketches for his completion of the Finale ofthe 9th Symphony. In addition, he employed Bruckner's notes concerning the coda, the last section of which is based on the sequence of themes of Bruckner's exposition.
