In the 18th century, during an expedition across the American state of Florida, the English botanist Plukenett discovered a magnolia that left a lasting impression on him. He named the plant after the French botanist Pierre Magnol. In the meantime, the popular magnolia has become one of the best-known flowering trees in the world.
