This composition for tuba and piano was commissioned by Wolfgang Rosenthaler, teacher of tuba at the Upper Austrian Association of Music Schools. The goal was to produce a repertoire piece that was suitable for entrance examinations to music schools and conservatoires, but could also be used as a competition piece. The two sections of this work are linked together by a cadenza and demand a high degree of rhythmic precision and rapid changes of time signature in the solo part. This applies equally to the scintillating first section and the quieter, more dance-like second section.
