Always modest and unpretentious, Gundry shares his troubled unbringing in suburban London, his days at Oxford and his vivid experiences of the war serving on HMS Welshman. His later years as a lecturer saw the composer also investigating the dramatic music of the 12th and 13th century monasteries, eventually founding the Sacred Music Drama Society.
