The CD Vigil im Advent was inspired by the “Ceremony of nine lessons and carols.” the traditional English form of Christmas service. The alternation of nine readings from the Scripture with the singing of the corresponding responses is typical for this celebration. Richard Mailänder and the figuralchor köln have retained this form, but in terms of content they have concentrated on Advent with three readings form Isaiah, John the Baptist, and Mary as central figures of this sacred pre-Christmas observance. In addition, for the most part new settings of Veni, veni, Emmanuel, Macht hoch die Tür, OHeiland, reiß die Himmel auf, Maria durch ein Dornwald ging, and many others areheard on this CD.
