Commissioned by the Vasari Singers to celebrate their 25th anniversary, this anthem sets a text by former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, a translation of an 18th-century Welsh poem by Ann Griffiths. The outer sections portray the poet’s sense of longing; the text's intensity is reflected in the building textures and subtle chromaticism. The middle section is rhythmically intricate with contrapuntal textures. A highly effective and varied work of around seven minutes suitable for church and concert use, which intermediate to advanced choirs will find very rewarding.
